| Abstract:: |
| Objective To investigate the radioactivity level both in Dendrobium nobile Lindl (D. nobile) and its cultivation matrices in Chishui, Guizhou province, and analyze the correlation between them.Methods A total of 32 samples, including stems of D. nobile, Danxia stones, mosses, and source water, were collected from 8 major wild-simulated cultivation bases in Chishui where D. nobile is planted. The activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, 40K, 210Pb and 137Cs in D. nobile, Danxia stones and mosses were determined by using high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma spectrometer, and the gross α and gross β radioactivity in source water were determined by using low background α/β counter. Pearson correlation analysis was performed respectively for their activity concentrations. Results The mean activity concentrations in D. nobile were found to be 232Th (1.07 ± 0.30), 226Ra (1.04 ± 0.44), 40K (297.1 ± 62.1), 210Pb (157.1 ± 57.2), and 137Cs (0.093 ± 0.087) Bq/kg (dry weight), respectively, and 238U concentrations was below the detection limit. No statistically significant correlation (P > 0.05) was found of the activity concentrations of 232Th, 226Ra, 40K, 210Pb, and 137Cs in Danxia stones and of 232Th, 226Ra, 40K, and 137Cs in mosses with in D. nobile. However, a statistically significant correlation was observed of the activity concentrations of 210Pb in mosses and with in D. nobile (r= 0.90, P < 0.05). Conclusions The activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, and 137Cs were all far below the limits specified in the national standard Limited Concentrations of Radioactive Materials in Foods (GB 14882-1994). Positive correlation was shown of the activity concentration of 210Pb between in D. nobile and in mosses. |
