Abstract::
      Objective To investigate the radiactivity levels in foods in some areas of Lanzhou city, Gansu province, and the distribution characteristics of radionuclides in different categories of foods and potential exposure risks.Methods From 2015 to 2022, a total of 168 food samples were continuously collected from selected areas of Lanzhou. Samples were pretreated using a vacuum freeze-drying technique, and the activity concentrations of 131I, 100Agm, 58Co, 60Co, 134Cs, 137Cs, 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K were measured and analyzed using high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma spectrometry.Results The detection rates for 131I, 100Agm, 58Co, 60Co, and 134Cs were all found to be zero and for 137Cs, 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K 26.79%, 12.50%, 26.19%, 64.88%, and 100%, respectively. The activity concentrations of 131I, 100Agm, 58Co, 60Co, and 134Cs were measured all to be below the detection limit. The average activity concentrations of 137Cs, 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K were 0.209±0.173, 10.355±7.021, 2.780±2.472, 1.171±0.801, and (205.7±118.2) Bq/kg (fresh weight), and the average activity concentration ranges were 0-2.410, 0.310-39.900, 0.023-14.100, 0.011-7.560, and 2.2-724.0 Bq/kg (fresh weight).Conclusions The result indicate that a number of radionuclides were detected in different categories of foods from Lanzhou city, but their radioactivity levels were all below the concentration limits specified in the national standard (GB 14882-1994), thus indicating a low potential exposure risk. This continuous investigation has essentially ascertained the radioactivity levels in local foods, providing a scientific basis for establishing a radioactivity baseline database.
