| Objective To investigate the levels and trends of radioactivity in seafood around the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP).Methods From 2021 to 2023, a monitored area and a control area were set up with the FNPP as the central sampling point to collect the seafood samples such as fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish from the surrounding sea areas of Beihai city, Qinzhou city, and Fangchenggang city. The gamma spectrometry was used to analyze the activity concentrations of 137Cs, 134Cs, 110Agm, 58Co, 60Co, 228Ra, 226Ra, 40K, 238U, 131I in seafood and the phosphate extraction chromatography was employed to analyze the activity concentration of 90Sr in seafood.Results A total of 37 seafood samples were monitored, with the average activity concentrations (mean ± standard deviation) of 238U, 228Ra, 226Ra, 40K, 137Cs, and 90Sr being (0.38±0.21), (2.6±3.1), (0.44±0.50), (61±22), (0.016±0.017), and (0.04 ±0.03) Bq/kg(fresh weight), respectively. The measuring result of remaining radionuclides were shown to be lower their respective detectable lower limits. Statistical tests indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in radioactivity levels across different regions (P > 0.05). However, the radioactivity levels of 137Cs, 134Cs, 110Agm, 58Co, 60Co, 131I, 228Ra, 226Ra, 40K, and 90Sr in varied of seafoods showed statistically significant differences (H = 9.83, 8.26, 9.73, 9.22, 11.41, 9.62, 21.10, 17.28, 19.39, 16.95, P < 0.05). Additionally, no statistically significant differences were observed in radioactivity levels between different years (P > 0.05).Conclusions The activity concentrations of 238U, 228Ra, 226Ra, 40K, 137Cs, and 90Sr measured in seafood around the FNPP are at the environmental background levels. |
