| Objective To investigate the levels of gamma-emitting radionuclides in seafood in Qingdao, estimate the committed effective doses to local residents via ingestion pathway and provide data support for timely detection of potential safety hazards.Methods A total of 59 samples of marine fish, seaweed, shellfish, crab and sea shrimp caught by local fishermen within 50 km offshore were collected from Qingdao coastal fishing port from 2019 to 2023. The activity concentrations of gamma-emitting radionuclides in the samples were determined, and the intake of radionuclides and the resulting committed effective dose were estimated on the basis of the consumption of seafood by Qingdao residents.Results The activity concentrations of artificial radionuclides 134Cs, 58Co, 60Co, 131I and 110Agm in 59 seafood samples were all below the detection lower limit. The average activity concentration of 137Cs was (16.85 ± 18.93)mBq/kg (fresh weight). Natural radionuclides 210Pb, 228Ra, 226Ra, 238U and 40K were detected, with average activity concentrations of (3.23 ± 3.16), (1.31 ± 1.55), (0.31 ± 0.37), (0.49 ± 1.04) and (88.98 ± 82.55)Bq/kg (fresh weight), respectively. The committed effective dose to Qingdao residents from consuming seafood was 157.52 μSv.Conclusions The activity concentrations of 238U, 228 Ra, 226Ra, 40K, 210Pb and 137Cs in seafoods collected from Qingdao from 2019 to 2023 were similar to those in other regions of China within background levels, which result in a minor dose commitment to Qingdao residents. |
