Abstract::
      Objective To estimate the committed effective dose to adutls based on the measured activity concentrations of natural radionuclides 226Ra, 228Ra, 232Th, 40K and artificial radionuclide 137Cs in both farmed and wild marine products colledted from Xinghua Bay, Fujian province.Methods A total of 11 seafood samples, including fish, shrimp, algae, and shellfish, were collected from Xinghua Bay in Fujian province from March to November 2023. The collected samples were pre-treated through forzen-drying and then measured by gamma spectrometry for radioactivity concentrations. The committed effective dose to adults via ingestion pathway was estimated by the dose conversion factors recommended in ICRP Publication 119 on the basis of the annual consumption of seafoods and the measured activity concentrations.Results The levels of measured activity concentrations of 226Ra, 228Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs in seafood from Xinghua Bay were consistent with the values reported in domestic and international literature. The committed effective dose to adults was 157.45 μSv. 228Ra and 40K contributed the largest dose fractions, about 45.8% and 46.0% of the total doses, respectively.Conclusions The estimated committed effective dose to adults via ingestion of seafood producted in Xinghua Bay, based on the measured activity concentrations of natural and artificial radionuclides, is lower than the value reported in the UNSCEAR 2000 Report and the IAEA Safety Reports Series No. 114. Therefore, the radiation hazards to adults through consuming seafood from Xinghua Bay is negligible.
