| Objective To boost the monitoring capabilities of various monitoring institutions and establish a national food radioactivity monitoring team by providing technical support for monitoring radionuclides in food. Methods Technical support was provided on a combination of formulating monitoring plans, improving monitoring method logy and revising detection standard, launching technical training and organizing inter-comparison exercises, establishing and maintaining a nationwide network of food radioactivity monitoring systems. Results From 2012 to 2023, a total of 11 956 food samples had been monitored with 102 794 data obtained. During this period, the National Institute of Radiological Protection, China CDC had organized 10 nationwide inter-comparison exercises for gamma spectrometry analyses and 7 national training courses, together with the national food radioactivity monitoring and reporting system established and improved. The relevant national standards for the detection of gamma radioactivity contents were developed and revised. The established 2 L large-volume Marinelli backer dry powder sample preparation, measurement and analytical method has been widely used by various monitoring institutions. Conclusions The relevant technical support efforts are proceeding to prepare monitoring plans, offer technical training and assessment, optimize detection method and achieve online reporting. The detection ability of each monitoring laboratory has obtained improvement on a year by year basis, thus fostering and enhance a stable radiological health monitoring team. |
