| Abstract:: |
| Objective To understand the radioactivity levels of 14C in foods around the Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Plant (SNPP), and to estimate the committed effective dose in combination with the annual dietary intake of the local residents.Methods Monitoring points were set up around the SNPP with Jinan proper as the control point. Totally 14 samples of 6 categories of foods, including grains, tubers, meats, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, and seafood, were collected each with 20 kg respectively during the harvest season. The carbon in the sample was oxidized and separated by using a tubular tritium carbon oxidation combustion device. Then, the sample preparation was made by using the absorption method combined with CO2, and measured by using a liquid scintillation measuring instrument. The trend of 14C radioactivity levels in different samples was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance statistical method. And the committed effective dose was estimated in combination with the dietary intake of residents.Results The activity concentrations of 14C in the collected grains, tubers, meats, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, and seafood were 71.3-87.6, 12.5-17.6, 18.2-33.9, 89.1-106.8, 3.7-12.3, and 3.3-25.7 Bq/kg (fresh weight), respectively. The activity concentrations of 14C varied in different categories of foods vary arround SNPP in the decending order: dairy products > grains > meats > tubers (seafood) > fruits and vegetables. The doses to the local residents ranged from 2.09×10-6 to 2.58×10-3 mSv.Conclusion The radioactivity levels of 14C in the foods around the SNPP are at the background level. |
