Objective To study the flexible shielding materials used for making personal protective equipment against wide energy neutron radiation. Method The experimental samples were processed according to the theoretical calculation results, and the neutron shielding efficiency experiment was carried out by using 252Cf fission neutrons and accelerator monoenergy neutrons. Results The shielding efficiency of a 1.5 cm thick ethylene-propylene rubber plate containing 10% boron carbide against six mononuclear neutrons such as 144 keV and 252Cf fission neutrons was obtained, being 31.02% for 252Cf fission neutrons and 76.9% for 144 keV neutrons. Conclusions The personal neutron protection material, made of ethylene-propylene rubber and boron carbide, has a certain shielding efficiency against neutron radiation of different energies, and can be used to make personal protective equipment against wide energy neutron. |
