Abstract::
      Objective To acquaint the cancer registration system information in the vicinity of Tian wan Nuclear Power Plant, including system establishment, reporting system, and its operation performance.Methods Since Sep 2003, the cancer registration system has been established in Lianyungang city. It covered 3 urban districts and 3 counties, including 4.12 million people within 50 km of radius from Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant. The system was constituted principally by hospital active reporting, assisted with county’s centers for disease control and prevention(CDC) active information collection and village doctor basal networks reporting. The cancer incidence data between 2004 and 2008 were analyzed, especially the data in 2008, such as data reporting channels, diagnostic hospital level and its location, the cancer diagnostic pattern, as well as data quality evaluation.Results The registration system consisted of 2 upper first-class hospitals, 16 upper second-class hospitals, 6 county-level CDCs and 1121 village basal reporting networks. During the period of 2004-2008, the cancer incidence was increased,while the percentage of unreported cases was decreased. In 2008, most of the cancer cases was reported by hospital (78.94%) and the basal networks (18.98%). 81.3% of the cancer cases were diagnosed in local hospitals. About 99.42% of the reported cases were confirmed with diagnosis by county, and higher level hospitals. Pathological evidences were available for 64.30% of the cancer cases,while urban area differed from the rural area.Conclusions The cancer registration system was successfully established in vicinity area of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant,and its operation is improved with years.
