Abstract:: |
Objective To investigate the advantage of manually editing intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT) fluence maps to control hot and cold spots that the IMRT optimization cannot control. Methods Five patients with head-and-neck cancers were randomly enrolled, retrospective treatment planning study was performed to compare the efficiency between re-optimization and fluence maps editing to control dose hot and cold spots. Results Compared with the dose distribution of the first optimization, doses at hot(cold) spots decreased(increased) in the re-optimization plan with a median value of 1.1%(0.5%) and 4.2%(1.0%), respectively. Conclusions The fluence map editing technique on IMRT was proved effective to control hot and cold spots, especially when re-optimization cannot get a satisfactory result. |
