Abstract:: |
Objective To evaluate the biological effects of high power microwave (HPM) irradiation on cellular activities of cultured primary neurons. Methods After the cerebral cortical neurons of newborn Wistar rats were cultured for 7 days, the cultured primary neurons were exposed to high microwave irradiation with an average power density of 5 mW/cm2. The enzymatic activity of total ATPase, Ca2+, Mg2+-ATPase and Na+, K+-ATPase were measured at 1 and 6 h, 1, 3 and 7 d after irradiation. The enzymatic activities of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) of the cultured primary neurons were also detected at the same time by the MTT method to reveal the activity of the neurons. Results The enzymatic activities of ATPase and SDH of neurons treated with microwave exposure with the average power density of 5 mW/cm2 were not significantly changed. Conclusions The HPM exposure to neurons with an average power density of 5 mW/cm2 is biologically safety to cultured primary neurons. |
