Abstract:: |
Objective To investigate the correlation between the chromosome aberration frequency and radiation encephalopathy(REP), and to evaluate the feasibility of the index in prediction the onset and severity of REP. Methods The metaphase chromosome method was used to test chromosomal aberration frequencies of 17 patients with REP and 17 patients without REP after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer. The correlation between chromosomal aberration frequencies and REP was analyzed. Results Radiation induced chromosome aberration alone, and the accumulation effect of it and spontaneous aberration have correlation to the onset and severity of REP, in which the latter is more serious. Conclusions Chromosome aberration has the potential to be used as in prediction of REP. |
