Abstract::
      Objective To study the effect of blood-testis barrier after exposure to high power microwave(HPM)in rats. Methods Thirty-five SD rats were divided into two groups: the experimental group treated with HPM and the control group. At different time points (2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 48 hours, 96 hours, 8 days). After exposure to HPM, the rats were killed to take 1mm3 tissue on the left and right testis.The specimens were fixed in lanthanum-glutaraldehyde solution. Preparation and routine transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were performed respectively. Results The lanthanum precipitation was found in basal membrane of the seminiferous tubule and around and spermatogonium in control group, they didn't across the tight junction. At 2-6 hours after exposure to HPM, same results as control group's were found. At 12-96 hours after exposure to HPM, the large number of lanthanum precipitations were also found from the basal part to spermatogenic cell and Sertoli cell. On day 8 after exposure, the intercellular space were enlarged, the lanthanum was deposited strongly in partial area. Conclusion Exposure to HPM might change the cellular permeability of cell membrane and destruct the protection of the blood-testis barrier. ;
