Abstract::
      Objective To study the effects of rare earth on some immune functions in irradiated mice. Methods Mice were i.g.adminstered with lanthanum citrate and cerium citrate separately for 7 days and then irradiated whole_bodily once with 4 Gy 60Coγ_rays once.After irradiation the mice were continuously given lanthanum and cerium for 3 days. Then the mice were used to detect the activation of natural killer (NK) cells and the lymphocyte proliferation. Results The activation of NK cells in cerium citrate groups was significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of controls. The results showed that cerium citrate could increase considerably lymphocyte proliferation in 10 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg groups. No significant changes were found in lanthanum citrate groups. Conclusion Cerium citrate may be able to stimulate immune functions in mice.
