Abstract::
      Objective To research the radiaton response of the pituitary to the single dose radiation. Methods The porcine hypophysis was irradiated by 5,10,15 and 20 Gy single doses respectively. 40 weeks after irradiation,all animals were exsanguinated and killed for pathologically examining the pituitrary and the pituitary targe organs. Results Degeneration of the pituitary cells and engorgement of the small vessels were observed in the 20 Gy group.The percenatge and the restorative degeree of the leydig cell and the sperm-producing cell were lower in the irradiated groups than that in the control group,and they showed a negative correlation with the dose.The thyroid tissue showed various degree of degeneration in the 15 and 20 Gy groups.No obvious changes were found about the adrenal tissue under the light microscope after irradiation. Conclusion The pituitary hormone-producing cells have the different radiative sensitivity.The pituitary-gonadal axis is most sensitive,and the pituitary_adrenal axis is resistant.
