Abstract:: |
Objective To study the radioprotection effect of the carrageenan-derived oligosaccharides on irradiated mice. Methods The carrageenan-derived oligosaccharides were applied to BALB/c mice daily for successive 14 days before whole-body irradiation with 6.0 Gy X-rays and for 7 days after the irradiation.The 30-day survival rate,counts of peripheral white blood cells,thymus and spleen index,cytostatic activity of NK,and peritoneal macrophage phagocytosis were studied. Results The 30-day survival rate elevated from 75% in the control group to 90% in the oligosaccharides-treated group.The carrageenan-derived oligosaccharides significantly promoted recovery of peripheral white blood cells,markedly increased thymus and spleen index,NK cytostatic activity and peritoneal macrophage phagocytosis. Conclusion The carrageenan-derived oligosaccharides has marked radioprotective effect on irradiated mice. |
