Abstract:: |
Objective To investigate the biological effects of various fractionated irradiation with heavy-ions on tumour growth delay of Lewis lung tumor and the survival times of mice bearing the tumor. Methods In addition to a control group(no irradiation), a low dose (12 Gy)group and a high dose group (24 Gy) were included in this study. In each dose group, tumour-bearing mice were divided into three sub-groups irradiated respectively with single dose, 2 fractionated-dose and 3 fractionated-dose of carbon-ion beams accelerated by HIRFL in Modern Physics Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Tumour volume was measured with calipers every other 3 days. Results No matter in the low dose group or in the high dose group, the tumour growth delay and the survival times (P<0.05) of 3 fractionated-dose irradiation increased more than those of single dose and 2 fractionated-dose irradiation. Conclusion These results offer the basic data for suggestion of use of 3 fractionated-dose irradiation at low dose in clinical trials of carbon-ion beams. |
