Abstract::
      Objective To investigate the radiosensitization of arsenic trioxide on malignant lymphoma cell lines. Methods Cell apoptosis situation, cellular DNA contents and Bcl-2 protein expression were determined by cell staining and flow cytometry. Results One to four Gy 60Co γ-irradiation and 0.5- 2.0 μmol/L As2O3 could inhibit Raji cell growth accompanied by the appearance of morphologic characteristics of apoptosis. The number of Sub-G1 cells significantly increased and Bcl-2 protein expression in Raji cells was significantly downregulated as assayed by flow cytometry. The relationship between Bcl-2 protein the concentration of As2O3 and γ-radiation showed both dose- and time-dependent features; so did the number of Sub-G1 cells. The inhibitory effect was much more evident when As2O3 and irradiation were applied combinatively than either one of them was used alone. Conclusion Arsenic trioxide is able to enhance radiation effect on malignant lymphoma cell lines.
