| Abstract:: |
| Objective To investigate the radioprotective effect of fullerenol. Methods ICR rats were given fullerenol intraperitoneally(i.p.) before and after whole-body 60Co γ-ray irradiation with 5.0 Gy. The change in body weight,index of spleen,index of thymus,peripheral blood counts and SOD activity were observed. Cell cycle of splenoeytes was detected with flow cytometry(FCM). Results Fullerenol showed significant radioprective effect on irradiated mice including increasing the weight of mice,protecting normal immune function of spleen and thymus,curing the decreasing white blood cell and platelet counts. Fullerenol also redused S phase ratio,promoted spleen cell division and proliferation. Conclusion Fullerenol has efficient capacity of radioprotection. The possible mechanism of the radioprotective effect of fullerenol was discussed in this paper. |
