Abstract::
      Objective To investigate appropriate the dosage of low-dose total body irradiation(TBI) on large animals in order to evaluate the possibility of clinical therapy. Methods A total of 32 cynomolgus were randomized into four groups which were irradiated with 0, 30, 50 and 75 mGy γ-rays respectively, at the dose rate of 0.175 mGy/min to observe their lymphocyte sub-populations, immunoglobulin and the results of natural tumor erythrocyte rosette test(NTERT) before and after receiving cyclophosphamide(CP), namely before and 1, 2, 8, 33 and 50 weeks after irradiation. Results The results indicated that leucocyte release factors, especially CD_ 16 (NK cell); took part in immune regulation and presented a time-dose response. Increase of IgA of the humoral immunity is characteristic, for significant differences were seen between the control group and 75 mGy, 50 mGy groups after 8 weeks' irradiation. Meanwhile, there were significant differences in NTERT result of number 1, 2 and 3 groups as compared with that of number 4 group after 2 weeks' irradiation, but there was no difference between number 1 group and number 2, 3 groups. Conclusion These observation suggest that TBI with low-dose γ-rays can increase erythrocyte and leucocyte function in the reduced immune function model of cynomolgus, and the present observation might provide a theoretic basis for low dose TBI clinical therapy.
