Abstract::
      Objective To evaluate the effect of polypeptide from Chlamys farreri (PCF) on apoptosis of thymocytes induced by 60 Co γ-ray irradiation. Methods Thymocytes of KM mice were subjected to 3 Gy γ-ray irradiation with a dose rate of 0.6 Gymin.Cells cultured in medium alone were of control groups and those irradiated by 60Co γ-rays were of model groups,and those pretreated with PCF at various concentrations (0.5,0.25,0.125 mgml) were of treatment groups.Changes of morphology,DNA ladder,nucleic acid and enzyme were observed. Results The cytotoxicity was lower in groups pretreated with PCF and apoptosis of the cells in these groups was inhibited.The level of MDA,a marker of lipid peroxidation,was down-regulated and the activity of SOD in the group treated with 0.5 mgml PCF was maintained in the normal level. Conclusion PCF has radioprotective effect on KM mice thymocytes damaged by 60Co γ-ray irradiation.
