Abstract::
      Objective As a kind of non-ionizing radiation, bio-effects of electromegnetic pulse (EMP) are numerous.It is meaningful to study effects of EMP at the level of free radicals. Methods Using spin-trapping technique,TBA method,DTNB method,MTT method and FCM technique,changes of free radicals,MDA content,GSH-px activity,percentage of living cells and Ca2+ concentration were detected,respectively. Results The content of lipid peroxide free radicals increased after EMP irradiation on hippocampal cells and cerebral cortex cells of Wistar rat.The content of MDA of cerebral cortex cells in the control group and EMP group was (6.18±0.29)nmol/mg and (8.43±0.01)nmol/mg(P<0.01),respectively.MDA of hippocampal cells in the control group and EMP group was (4.38±0.15)nmol/mg and (4.98±0.39)nmol/mg(P<0.05),respectively.The activities of GSH-px decreased significantly.The OD value of cerebral cortex cells of the control group was 0.026±0.001 and EMP group,0.022±0.002(P<0.05).The OD value of hippocampal cells of the control groupwas 0.021±0.002 and EMP group,0.018±0.001(P<0.05).EMP could not kill the cells directly for the percentage of living cells in the EMP group was about 95%.The concentration of Ca2+ in the cells increased after 10 times of EMP irradiation. Conclusions EMP enhanced the level of free radicals in neural cells. The MDA level increased,and the activity of GSH-px decreased.Additionally,EMP could not kill cells directly,but increased concentration of Ca2+ that might induce apoptosis.
