| Objective To evaluate the effect of superoxide dismutase(SOD) on stomatitis induced by radiation. Methods Altogether 90 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who accepted radiotherapy for the first time were randomized into 3 groups: group A-Application of the SOD drug made by our hospital; group B-Application of the drug “Weisike"; group C-The patients were untreated .All patients of groups A and B took the drugs two weeks after beginning of radiotherapy until the end of the sixth week. Results The rate of radiation stomatitis was obviously lower in group A than that in group C (PP<0.05), and the rate of healing was obviously higher (PP<0.01). Conclusion SOD is effective in prevention and treatment of radiation stomatitis. |
