Abstract::
      Objective To investigate changes of telomerase activity in human tumor and normal cell lines exposed to radiation and its association with cell death. Methods Telomerase activity was assayed,telomerase in situ hybridization was performed,dead cells were nubmered,and morphology of the dead cells was distinguished at different time points after irradiation. Results Apoptosis was the primary cause of cell death of A549 and L02 cell lines.In the development of apoptosis,positive cells by telomerase in situ hybridization accounted for 60% to 90% of the two lines,and the expression intensity of telomerase activity assayed by TRAP increased,suggesting that radiation injury could induce telomerase activity and that the high level of telomerase activity might be maintained till the developent of aopotosis. Conclusion Telomerase suppression may not be involved in radiation-induced human tumor and normal cell apoptosis and telomerase participates in the process of chromosomal repair. ;
