Abstract::
      Objective In search for less toxic and more effective radiosensitizer.The effects of CGEONA (carboxy-β -phenyl-vinyl-germanium sesquioxide sodium salt) on radiosensitivity in tumor-bearing mice and normal mice were investigated. Methods Radiosensitization experiments were performed on T-739 mice.tumor model was LA-795 pulmonary adenocarcinoma and tumor response was assessed using a regtowth delay.Radioprotection experiments were performed on Kunming mice. The 30-day survival rate and effect on hemopoietic system were observed. Results The average sensitization enhancement ratio of CGEONA was 1.4 using 1/10 LD 50 drug dose.The radioprotection experiments showed no significant difference between treated mice and control mice for survival rate and hemopoietic systcm. Conclusion CGEONA shows great potential as a new type radiosensitizer with less toxicity and more effectiveness. It has no radiosensitizing effect on normal mice and is worthy of further studies.
