Objective To study the effects of genistein on the repopulation of mouse jejunum crypts and expression of TGF- and EGF-R following irradiation. Methods C3Hf/kam mice were treated by radiotherapy plus genistein as the study group or treated by radiotherapy only as the control group.Using jejunum as material, the number of cryptal cells and mitotic index were measured at different time intervals after irradiation.At the same time the expression of TGF- and EGF-R were also tested by immunohistochemical method. Results Comparied with the control group, the number of cryptal cells and mitotic index in the study group were decreased on days 3-4 after irradiation.The expression of TGF- in crypts kept a high level while the expression of EGF-R in crypts decreased after irradiation in the study group. Conclusion The results indicate that genistein can suppress the repopulation of mouse jejunum crypts after irradiation while TGF- and EGF-R play important roles in repopulation of mouse jejunum crypts after irradiation. |
