| Objective In order to study the role and significance of transforming growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)mRNA in radiation interstitial pneumonitis (RIP),and explore the mechanism of RIP,the authors observed TGF-β1 mRNA expression in the rat lungs.Method Male Wistar rats were divided into two groups:the control and the irradiation group. The latter received thoracic irradiation of 30Gy.At 0.5,1,2,3,6 and 12 months after irradiation, rats were killed.Lung pathologic changes and expression of TGF-β1 mRNA were observed using in situ hybridization technique. Results Expression of TGF-β1 mRNA in the irradiated lungs increased, compared with that in the control group, particularly in fibrous proliferative phase(3—6 months after irradiation). Conclusion TGF-β1 is related to the development of RIP. |
