Abstract:: |
Tlymphocyte blastogenetic rate and phagocytosis rate of macrophages were studied on 171 patients with malignant tumors during the perlod 1991-1993.Sixty of 171 cases were divided randomly into two groups; the patients of the first group were treated with radiotherapy and lycium barbarum polysaccharide, while the second group with radiotherapy alone.Compared with the normal controls,T3, T4,T4/T8 raito, lympocyte blastogenesis rate and phagocytosis rate of macrophages in the patients decreased markedly, while T8 increased relatively.The results showed that in the second group, T3, T4, T4/T8 ratio, lyrnphocyte blastogenesis rate, macrohpage phagocytosis rate, leucocyte and lymphocyte counts of peripheral blood declined.notably after radiotherapy.In the first group,however, the above parameters increased significantly, except that leucocyte and lymphocyte counts of peripheral blood maintained unchanged.It is suggested that lycium barbarum polysaccharide can raise the immune responses of the cancer patients during radiotherapy and therefore can be of potential benefit to cancer therapy. |
