Abstract:: |
An approach to the possibility of dosimetry of a corresponding uniform whole body irradiation in case of half body exposures by micronucleus (MN) assay, validated by dosimetry of a nonuniform tissue-equivalent anthropomorphous phantom and clinical manifestations is presented in this paper. The results show that the dose estimated by the frequencies of micronuclei was basically consistent with that of hemopoietic stem cell survival weighted whole body dose measured and calculated with LiF (Mg, Ti) M thermoluminescence detectors distributed in the phantom and with the clinical manifestations.There was no or just a mild decrease in WBC and BPC post irradiation, but the majority of these exposed patients had nausea and vomiting, which were certainly related to the whole abdominal exposures. Hence, we consider that under a condition of half body irradiation,the biological dosimetry with MN assay can be used to indicate the whole body equivalent dose and to reflect the seriousness of the whole body radiation injuries. |
