The 2nd Global Chinese Congress on Radiation Research (GCCRR 2014) was held solemnly on May 11 to 15, 2014 in Suzhou city, Jiangsu province. More than three hundred Chinese experts from home and abroad attended the meeting, together with a number of Americans, Japanese and other foreign experts who are famous in the field of radiological medicine. No doubt, this congress will effectively promote the exchange and cooperation in the fields of radiation research and related disciplines. A large number of distinguished experts in the field of radiation research contributed the plenary, keynote or invited lectures to the congress with the emphasis on the latest progress of radiation research studies in the world. The congress theme is "Challenge and Opportunity of Radiation Research". The congress included nine topic sessions: radiobiology, radiation chemistry, diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy, radiation protection, radiation physics, radiation technology, radiation and interdisciplinary sciences, and radiation environment, focusing on fundamental theory, new methodology of radiation protection, latest technology in diagnostic radiology, recent advance in radiotherapy, new achievement of environmental radiochemistry, and integration and innovation of radiation research and interdisciplinary sciences.
We are delighted to see that the radiation research is facing new development opportunity after past decades of ebb and flow. The current development in radiation research is largely driven by the exploration of major scientific problems, the demands of national major strategy, the rising of big health industry, and the expansion of nuclear power. These are all promoting, and will continue to promote the development of radiation research in depth. We can foresee that the radiation research will also bring benefits to human society better in their own development.
The editorial board of Chinese Journal of Radiological Medicine and Protection will publish 13 excellent papers selected from nearly 200 papers presented to the meeting. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and congratulations! And I wish the radiation research for which we have endeavored all our lifetime to aboard new heights!
